Jim Geekie is a partner, with Wendy Fox, in CareerWorks Inc., an Edmonton-based consulting firm involved in a wide variety of training, writing and project management activities related to career and organizational development.Prior to 1997, Jim served in a number of senior leadership positions with the former Alberta ministry of advanced education and career development (now Human Resources and Employment). Over the course of 18 years he utilized his strong communication, consulting, negotiation and project management skills in the development and implementation of innovative labour market and career development initiatives.
During 1994-96 he served as project manager for the Canada/Alberta Services Centres demonstration project. The project served as the forerunner to Canada's first Labour Market Development Agreement.
Since entering private consulting Jim has been involved in many interesting projects with a diverse group of clients. These include:
an assessment of the career information needs of Canadians on behalf of the Canada Career Consortium, designing and facilitating a strategic planning workshop for a group of training support organizations wishing to collaborate more effectively,
reviewing the delivery structure of a government department and making recommendations for change,
researching and reporting on best practices for the delivery of income and employment programs,
evaluating approaches to employability assessment,
investigating innovative approaches to community corrections and addictions treatment on behalf of a charitable foundation,
teaching courses in career coaching, project management, and consulting,
collaborating in the design and delivery of a unique "Investment English" course for senior officials of the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development District of the People's Republic of China, and
researching and writing material for a career information website.
Jim holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Manitoba. He is a member of the Alberta Association of Registered Social Workers and the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society.
